Helicopter warning signs instilled us with confidence that our ride to the middle of Franz Josef Glacier would be safe.


The terminal moraine has a lot of dirt and rock mixed in.


According to our guide, this is one of the few glaciers in the world that is actually still advancing despite global warming.


Our helicopter ride was pretty shaky but we landed on a relatively solid and stable area of the glacier.
